How BFBO online learning came to be

Joanne Lynne is the website developer & course creator. She graduated from the Canadian Academy of Osteopathy in 2015 at the top of her class, being the first mother (of 2) to win the Andrew Taylor Still Award of Excellence.

She trained with Robert Harris in Toronto at the Cranial Therapy Centre, specializing in paediatric cranio-sacral techniques and under Dr. Jonathan Evans, Registered Osteopath (UK). Currently she is working towards her Masters of Education.

In 2021, BFBU began with online events for a close-knit group of manual therapists interested in learning practical experiences for treating babies, spearheaded by Joanne.

One of the early webinars was presented by Dr. Malisa Gambacorta DDS, an amazing, osteopathically-minded, "do-no-harm" dentist, who taught tethered oral tissues. This event is the basis for the Tethered Oral Tissues course. A later webinar on Integrative Approaches to Airway Health: Collaboration Between Osteopathy and Dentistry was held in 2024 with Dr. Mandeep Johal, D.M.D. an esteemed dentist and lecturer who has delivered talks on airway dentistry, the integration of tongue ties, myofunctional therapy, and orthodontics at many conferences and venues.

Two following online events were taught by Terra Nicolle, OMP, RMT, PFT. She is a terrific public speaker and superb presenter; a very talented woman. Both Assessing Pregnancy and Treating Pregnancy courses were spawn from these events.

Later that year Joanne Lynne hosted Dr. Dustin Costescu, Ob/Gyn to present birth and birth injuries to our growing group of engaged OMPs. Funny and knowledgeable, Dr. Dustin's presentation was well received. This led to the development of the course Birth and Its Mechanisms of Injury.

The thirst for paediatric knowledge was escalating in Canada! Eventually, Dr. Jonathan Evans, DO (UK) and Joanne Lynne created an alliance. The Treating Babies Apprenticeship, a combination of online and live supportive coaching. The first of its kind in Canada, the first cohort was formed in January 2022.

During the summer of 2022, Intra Oral Treatment was released. Taught by Joanne Lynne, it is the perfect fit to follow the TOTS course. That fall, Caylea Davidson began collaborating with BFBO by offering in-person taping courses geared towards pregnancy.

In late 2023, 2 new courses were developed: Paediatric Manual Therapy Concepts and Treating the Infant Cranium launched in the fall.

In May 2024, the course Infant Latch, the Jaw and Tongue was released. It is a more advanced course for practitioners who have been working with babies already but need a boost in how to assess latch disorders.
